Be the change you want to see in the world - Gandhi

We were once challenged to “Create a Movement about something that Matters”.  So we thought as a small first step – why not encourage every Children’s Service in Australia to sponsor a child.

Many of you I am sure already do so – it is just the sort of thing you would do. I sponsor a youngster from central India, near Varanasi, and it truly is a rewarding experience. So wouldn’t it be great if we could inspire thousands more to also sponsor a child? Imagine –  if every Children’s Service in Australia sponsored just one child, that would be over 10,000 more children and their communities having a brighter future.

Each Children’s Service could make this part of their curriculum. Sponsoring a child is a real and tangible  approach to supporting an understanding of caring for all in our society. Children can learn about the geography and culture, write letters, paint pictures and create amazing artworks for their sponsored child. They can sing traditional songs and cook traditional dishes – sponsoring a child is so much more than just sponsoring a child. This truly is authentic learning. The cost? For an average sized service it would be less than 7 cents per child/per day – not much for the difference it will make to the lives of all.
